The consortium
members will introduce and integrate several
ongoing measures to support the financial and
academic longevity of the project:
The involvement of
the private sector and the IMC will greatly
facilitate sustainability for all consortium
members. "Live" links between academia and
industry, are relatively cheap, but will provide
continuing proof of "demand-driven" need for
mechatronics graduates, and encourage on-going,
and increasing, co-operation, where at least
modest financial sponsoring by industry is
highly likely.
The publication of a
degree-specific course book and the running of a
post-graduate introductory course will provide
academic and financial support for the
undergraduate courses, the universities and the
individuals involved. ECTS compatibility will
facilitate international exchange and input, the
dissemination of high quality course content.
Introducing this mechatronics degree course text
could potentially strongly influence curricula
development worldwide.
The new,
ECTS-compliant, curricula will be developed and
accredited by the Higher Education Ministry and
other relevant bodies. This will give academic
and institutional sustainability to the course
for our academic and industrial partners. It
will also help to establish credibility with the
general public in Egypt and an international
reputation for the mechatronics degree course.
The Training of
Trainers course is an essential educational
resource to maintain a high level of staff
knowledge, application and teaching within the
degree course. It can also provide a reliable
financial resource, if offered as a vocational
training course to a wider audience from
different universities. The didactical part can
also be offered to professors with other
specialties and be self sustainable.

Year 3 M 11 |
Description of the activity: |
Structures are being planned for the
training programme described in
section 4 and the industrial
linkages mentioned in section 2 to
be offered and organised in
co-operation with the IMC. Since
funding requirements after
establishment of the activities for
the industrial linkage programme are
expected to be low, it is expected
that the tasks are being carried out
by the universities with
organisational support from the IMC
and financial support from
industry. The training course (4)
is expected to generate sufficient
revenue to cover its costs, as long
as interest by industry remains
high. Support in the promotion of
the training by the IMC is expected
to continue after the end of the
project.

Year 3 M 4 |
Description of the activity: |
To guarantee the integration of the
courses described in 4 into the
undergraduate engineering
curriculum, accreditation by the
Higher Education Ministry and the
Supreme Council of
Universities is going to be applied
for. Once accredited, sustainability
of this part is as good as
guaranteed. The version of the
course offered to industry will also
be sought from the Higher Education
Ministry and the Supreme Council of
Universities.
The trainers trained in 1.2 will
receive a certificate from their
home institutions after successful
completion of 1.3. They can then
continue to train staff at
relatively low costs that can easily
be born by their home institutions.
