Is one of the largest in the country, teaching
approximately 33000 students. It consists of 12
faculties which are based in Gliwice, Katowice
and Zabrze, and provides two Mechatronics
Courses - one at the Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering and one at Faculty of Electrical
Engineering. The Faculty of Electrical
Engineering, Institute of Theoretical and
Industrial Electrical Engineering was the first
one in Poland to establish an interdisciplinary
Mechatronics Course in 1996, with subjects like
unconventional electromechanical actuators,
multi-degree drive systems, devices using
magnetorheological fluids and shape memory
alloys SMA (smart materials), ultrasonic and
piezoelectric micromotors and FSR (Force
Sensing Resistors, levitation systems).
Mechatronics is offered as Bachelors and Masters
Qualifications with strong connections to UICEE
(The UNESCO International Centre for Engineering
Education) and REM (Research and Education in
Mechatronics) network. In this division is the
only Centre for Education in Mechatronics (CEM,
established in 2002) within UICEE. They are
active in CEEPUS Programme (Central European
Exchange Programme for University Studies).
