Formerly known as the
Society for Cultural Development is an NGO involved in
all levels of education and development support. In line
with the recommendations of the Arab Human Development
Report, it provides a learning environment to promote
high academic quality in conjunction with
practice-oriented learning, utilising its international reputation and
industrial links. The latter greatly contribute
to the workshops and seminars in higher
education development, and the professor
training in didactics, it organises. It also
runs a kindergarten, a primary, preparatory and
secondary school as well as a technical
secondary school and a vocational training
centre based on the dual company- and school
based vocational training approach. The SDF
founded the SEKEM Academy for applied Arts and
Science, out of which the SEKEM University will
emerge. The SEKEM University (Egypt) will offer
practice oriented higher education in closed
co-operation with academic and business oriented
partners from Egypt and abroad . It aims to
highlight the essential part that civil society
plays in development, interaction and
co-operation. Students will have access to
specialist research laboratories designed for
technological prototype innovation. SDF will
provide overall executive management as project
coordinator. The SDF implementation team
consists of Cherine Mohamed, Ing. Mohsen Gomaa,
Dr. Sigward von Laue and Prof. Mohamed Rasmy.
